Fred Hintz is a distinguished behavioral health professional with four decades of expertise in substance use counseling, clinical supervision, and mental health services. As a respected member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Fred serves as a MINT Member Trainer, leading the advancement of Motivational Interviewing (MI) practices within diverse clinical and organizational settings.
Fred’s credentials include a retired Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC, 1988–2023), grandfathered Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC), and a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) since 2021. His training background is further strengthened by his completion of Functional Family Therapy in the Federal Blue Print model and his role as a certified OASAS (Office of Addiction Services and Supports) trainer in Motivational Interviewing, reflecting his deep commitment to evidence-based interventions and professional excellence.
Throughout his career, Fred has worked in a variety of settings, including Helio Health, PRISM, County of Oswego Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, and the Rescue Mission Alliance. He has consistently demonstrated leadership and clinical acumen, spending 40 years counseling individuals and families affected by substance use, two years as a clinical supervisor, and a decade providing mental health counseling and comprehensive assessments.
Since 2008, Fred has been instrumental in the delivery of Motivational Interviewing training and coaching, conducting numerous workshops and facilitating MI coaching groups for clinicians and organizations across New York State. His approachable style, depth of knowledge, and dedication to professional education have made him a valued resource for colleagues, employers, and trainees alike.
